Hendersonville Symphony Youth Orchestra to Perform December 4
The Hendersonville Symphony Youth Orchestra (HSYO) will perform in concert Sunday, December 4, at 4 p.m. at the Bo Thomas Auditorium at Blue Ridge Community College. The HSYO provides symphonic orchestra performance opportunities for area school-aged string, wind and percussion players up to age 21. Rehearsing together once a week, these 37 young musicians are passionately dedicated to expanding their knowledge of and experience with symphonic music.
“This is a culmination of what we have been working on since the school year began,” says Dorian Neuendorf, HSYO operations manager. “From an educational viewpoint, it is all about technique and styles—all the different things that we have studied. From an artistic viewpoint, it is about the students expressing themselves through their music.”
On the program are Ravel’s Pavane, Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers, from The Nutcracker, Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia, and Haydn’s Adagio and Allegro from Symphony No. 104. The concert will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s first movement from Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring piano prodigy Christopher Tavernier. The Coda Ensemble will perform the entire first movement of Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major, Op. 163.
“HSYO demonstrates a true commitment by students to their artistic endeavor and also serves as an example of our organization’s dedication to providing education and performance opportunities for our area youth,” says Pat Tukey, executive director of the Hendersonville Symphony. “It is so inspiring to see and hear these talented students working together and the camaraderie that is created among the group as they prepare for a concert.”
Blue Ridge Community College is located at 180 West Campus Drive in Flat Rock. Tickets are $7 per person and will be available at the door one hour prior to the concert, which is open to the public. For more information, visit hendersonvillesymphony.org or call 828.697.5884.
