The North Carolina Banjo Clinic

NC Banjo Clinic Brings Two Days of Banjo Bliss to Montford

Join the North Carolina Banjo Clinic for two full days of banjo workshops on Friday, November 11, and Saturday, November 12, in Montford. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. at the Crosspoint Community Church. The clinic will host bluegrass and old time clawhammer banjo workshops on both days and welcomes all skill levels, from novice to advanced, to join the classes and jam sessions.

Organizing the event is Village Productions, a non-profit music education program that has been serving interested musicians since 1991. The team has brought instructional clinics and concerts to locations around the country. Currently based in Asheville, the NC Banjo Clinic has become Village Productions’ flagship event. Beginning in spring 2017, the clinic will also host an all-day electric guitar clinic at the same location for those interested.

The NC Banjo Clinic will host ten professional banjo instructors seasoned in the techniques of bluegrass and clawhammer banjo, covering everything from reading tablature to playing and tuning the instrument. “People call it a vacation within a vacation,” says Rod Johnston of Village Productions. “I refer to it as two days of banjo bliss. A chance to immerse yourself in 12 hours of serious musical instruction that will not only inspire, it will provide months of material to review and practice.”

The duration of the sessions over the course of two days makes for an immersive learning experience. “I attended NCBC for the first time last year,” says Doug Shenton. “I learned so much and my playing has really improved. I can’t wait for this year’s clinic.” Students need to bring their banjo, picks and tuner to the clinic. With notice, rental banjos will be available.

The NC Banjo Clinic will be held at the Crosspoint Community Church on the corner of West Chestnut Street in Montford. Parking is free for clinic attendees. The daily rate for the clinic is $175. Price tiers for two-day tickets vary based on purchase date, so be sure to buy a ticket early for a good deal. For more information visit vpmusic.org.
