Sponsored by Warren Wilson College, photo+craft is a three-day arts event that will bring together Asheville’s creative community in a multidisciplinary festival. The goal is to probe the intersections between photography and craft through exhibitions, talks, workshops, a film, studio tour, and panel discussions at a variety of venues throughout downtown Asheville and the River Arts District March 31–April 3.
There will be two keynote speakers. Fred Ritchin (dean of the School of the International Center of Photography) will discuss the challenges and possibilities existent in the digital revolution. Namita Gupta Wiggers (director and cofounder of Critical Craft Forum) will talk about the potential for craft to provide diversity and difference.
More than 15 galleries and art institutions will be participating in photo+craft, including the Asheville Art Museum, Penland School of Crafts, Blue Spiral 1, and the Center for Craft, Creativity & Design.
