“The RAW-(Material) Project” at Weaverville Yoga Studio

Claire Elizabeth Barratt is a ballet teacher and performance artist who is currently pursuing an MFA with the Transart Institute. She is also the director of Cilla Vee Life Arts. As part of her studies, she has been developing a method for creating and teaching performance art. On the weekend of May 14–15, she is presenting “The RAW-(Material) Project,” consisting of performance art, a workshop, and video screening at Weaverville Yoga Studio, 7 Florida Avenue in Weaverville. “The raw material of the performing artist,” she explains, “is the ‘self’ as living art.” On Saturday at 7 p.m., she will present a dance and music performance. On Sunday from 2–5 p.m., she will lead a Living Art movement workshop, followed at 6 p.m. by screening of video pieces about the body interacting with nature and the environment. There will also be an art installation of text, video, image, and sound pieces depicting Claire’s process in developing this project. Attendance to all events is on a donation basis of pay-what-you-can, says Claire.
