The Light Beside the Mist. Elise Okrend, artist
Throughout October, two River Arts District artists with neighboring studios—pastel painter Elise Okrend and Amy Massey, who works in watercolor and gouache—present Reflections and Reveries, a dual exhibition of their work. An opening reception will be held Saturday, October 10, from 5–7 p.m. in Studio 1-A2-3 at Wedge Studios.
“After two years of having studios next to one another, we thought it would be a natural to show our bodies of work together, under one theme,” Okrend says. “We are always hearing from others that our work and spaces together promote a sense of calm and introspection. Reflections and Reveries captures that shared spirit.”

Massey points out that the exhibition invites feelings of slowing down and turning inward as we settle into autumn. “Both of our bodies of work offer a peaceful softness and an open invitation for contemplation,” she says. “While my work is more intricate, flowing and abstract compared to Elise’s dreamy, soft-focused landscapes, our works each exude an intention of using painting to capture meaning and connection.” She hopes that visitors to the gallery are reminded to “turn towards moments of connection and beauty.”
Okrend agrees that despite the contrasts in their work, each artist arrives at places that are quiet and ethereal. “She uses detail, line and texture to my blending, blur and perspective,” she says. “The show is about the emotional connection the viewer will have with our work. Using natural elements, in different ways, we provide the viewer with an opening to immerse themselves and explore their emotions.”
Mark your calendars for RADfest 2026, which will be held in the River Arts District Saturday, November 14, and Sunday, November 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Okrend and Massey will be demonstrating their process and showing their work during the event.
