As creative as they are skilled, members of the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League continue to refine the concept of art in every exhibit. Their next show, Dimensions: Photography, Mixed Media & 3D, is an example. Running February 4 through March 26, Dimensions is on display at the Red House Studios & Gallery, 310 West State Street in Black Mountain. An opening reception will take place from 5–7 p.m. on Friday, February 5.

The show features both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works that represent sculpture. Photography will be the only two-dimensional medium featured. That means no pastel, watercolor, oil, or acrylic in this particular show.

“We want to encourage our artists to step outside their comfort zone,” says artist Cindy Chenard, show curator. “We do have a couple of very creative nude photographs in the show, and photography on metal.” In one of her pieces, “Going in Circles,” Cindy creates layers and shadows through the use of wood, acrylic, and mixed media. Other media represented in the show include sculpture, assemblage, clay, metal, glass, fiber, and wood.

Winter gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit svfalarts.org or call 828.669.0351.
