Art by the Tracks in Downtown Black Mountain

Artists, Erin & Jason Hall

Mark your calendars. The 19th annual Black Mountain Old Depot Art by the Tracks arts and crafts show takes place on Saturday and Sunday, June 4–5, along Sutton Avenue near the Old Depot in downtown Black Mountain. More than 50 artists are expected to participate in this juried show. Hours are 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. on Saturday, and Sunday from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Admission is free. There will also be live music and food vendors.

Among the booths, a wide variety of mediums are represented, including woodturning, blacksmith metal work, weaving, photography, and painting. While the majority of artisans are from the region, a few will travel in from other states for this event.

Erin and Jason Hall, of Alberta Pottery, will return to the show from their home in Greenville, South Carolina, where they create hand-thrown pottery from locally sourced clay. Fred Feldman, of Studio 208, lives in Black Mountain and creates original clay sculptures, woodworking, and art from found objects. This will be his first time as an Art by the Tracks’ artist.

Also new to the vendor list is Joe Dinwiddie, known as Drystone Joe, a stonemason living in Swannanoa. In addition to displaying his works, Joe will also give demonstrations.

Hosted by the Old Depot Association, this event is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, making art grants possible for schools throughout the Swannanoa Valley. The fall edition of this event will take place on Saturday, October 29, from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.
