If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. Shibori is a Japanese method of resist dying which goes back hundreds of years. Indigo dye is often used to get the distinctive patterns you may recognize in today’s fashion and home décor fabrics.
In this hands-on two-day workshop, artist Diane Kuehn will share the fundamentals of shibori folding and binding techniques to create beautiful patterns on fabric with indigo dye. We will also learn to prepare an indigo vat and how to prepare fabric to dye with scouring techniques. Students can expect to make pillow or napkin sized sample pieces and a cotton scarf. An additional small piece of clothing to upcycle can be brought from home.
