Buckskin is a specific type of natural hide tanning process. The finished material is softer and has more stretchy tendencies than true leather, making it perfect for small, soft design. Buckskin also has a distinct campfire-like smell from the process of “smoking the hide”, which will give your treasures a truly beautiful and unique home. By using our hands and working with tanned animal skins to craft something useful and beautiful, we grow our connection to the natural world that sustains us. Deer hides and other animal skins and hides are often seen as byproducts and discarded. In celebrating the potential of hides tanned and all their uses, we can see past this waste culture and offer a different narrative – even in the smallest things.
