The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. CAMP: Harry Potter Wizarding TECH – July 6-10 (Actors and Theater techies)

July 6 - July 10

✨ HARRY POTTER WIZARDING TECHNICAL THEATER Summer Camp (ages 8–16) ✨
Accio imagination! Campers step into Hogwarts through acting and stage “spell work” as they explore characters, scenes, and magical movement.
With house-based activities, dramatic storytelling, and ensemble practice, students learn to wield their voice, curiosity, and confidence like trained wizards. Learn the technical elements of how to create MAGIC on the stage in this camp. No real focus on singing for this camp.

*FOR THOSE NOT INTERESTED IN BEING ON STAGE BUT INSTEAD LEARNING TECHNICAL ELEMENTS LIKE LIGHTS, SOUND, STAGE MANAGING, SCENIC DESIGN, THIS CAMP IS ALSO FOR YOU!!

🎬 This camp will be led by our very own Potterhead, Melena Dillingham, and Cass Opal (Production Manager at the School of Stage and Screen at Western Carolina University). Melena has been teaching voice for over twenty years after performing as a professional actress; Cass has been a Production Manager and Lead Electrician at various locations including The Wortham Center for the Performing Arts and Juiliard School, The Actor’s Studion and Ars Nova in NYC.

Campers will:

Rehearse scenes inspired by Harry Potter stories with expressive stage movement and magical blocking

Techies in this camp will learn technical elements such as lighting, sound, stage management and scenic design
Experiment with scenic design to create magic on the stage

Learn choreography for the Yule Ball and Dark Lord Funk

Learn a bit of real magic from a working magician!
Every day will also include craft time creating props, scenic elements for the Friday showcase, or camp souvenirs
Techies in this camp will learn the technical elements such as lighting, sound, stage management and scenic design necessary to create magic on stage
👉 Ages: 8–16
🗓 Dates: July 6-10
🕘 Hours: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
🎬 Showcase: Friday afternoon at 3:30pm
💲 Price: $355; increases to $375 on April 1
