Cast Iron was formed in 2019 from the rich acoustic music scene around the Asheville area. Mandolin player Nick Dauphinais, a New Hampshire native, has played with Mountain Faith and the Larry Stephenson Band. Andrew Blythe, on banjo, grew up in Etowah, North Carolina and participated in the bluegrass program while attending East Tennessee State University. He later joined the western North Carolina bluegrass band Blue Wheel Drive. Guitar player Rob Sine, from Fairmont, West Virginia, also played with Blue Wheel Drive before joining Cast Iron. Celia Millington-Wyckoff, on bass, played with the central Pennsylvania bluegrass band Whetstone Run in the mid-70s, and retired to the Asheville area in order to have more opportunities to play.
