The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. Drumming Bird and BAERD’s co-headlining tour graces the Citizen Vinyl stage on Sunday, October 6. 8 p.m. show, 7 p.m. doors. $15 in advance / $18 at the door.
Drumming Bird is the main vehicle of singer-songwriter Austin Sawyer. The 24-year-old has been writing and performing music as Drumming Bird for over 8 years, meticulously crafting a sound that lies somewhere between the youthful noise of indie rock and the poignant working-class introspection of Americana. The growth of Drumming Bird’s burgeoning fanbase has been catalyzed by national TV placements, including Showtime’s hit show, Shameless.
“American Spirits” was released on May 19th, and reached a wide new audience with its timely and pointed lyricism. It has quickly established Sawyer as a songwriter’s songwriter, earning praise from the likes of Katie Pruitt, Manchester Orchestra, and Lori Mckenna.
BAERD is an indie-folk artist/producer hailing from Nashville, TN. Often described as dynamic, ethereal, and contemplative, BAERD’s music dives deeply into many relatable themes all with the hope of connecting the audience more deeply with themselves. Influenced by many great artists such as The Beatles, Punch Brothers, and The Carter Family. BAERD grabs the audience with his powerful voice, intricate guitar playing, and spellbinding lyrics sprouting from his drug filled teenage years into his mediation and introspective filled present, BAERD aims to wrestle with the darkness in order to unearth the light.
