The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. If you encounter difficulties submitting an event, please email amy@thelaurelofasheville.com.
Quietude celebrates 100 years on October 24
Quietude Retreat Center in Black Mountain will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a free public gathering on Saturday, October 24, from 1–4 p.m. Trevor Freeman, the new director of the Swannanoa Valley Museum and History Center, will speak. The afternoon will also include historical exhibits, live music, refreshments, and a 1:15 pm ribbon cutting with the Black Mountain and Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce.
Quietude has been part of the valley since 1926. After damage from Hurricane Helene, this anniversary is a meaningful chance to share its history and welcome the community back. I’ve attached the press release and would be glad to arrange an interview or provide historical photographs.
The event is at Quietude Retreat Center, 1130 Montreat Road, Black Mountain. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
