Shelton Laurel: An Appalachian Opera

January 24 @ 7:30 pm

$25.00

A new work that explores the unique and tragic conflicts faced by settlers of Western North Carolina during the Civil War. Set in rural Madison County, this opera is a powerful account of families torn apart by fear, mistrust, and violence. Tracing a story that interweaves short stories and poetry of Ron Rash and based in part on true events, Shelton Laurel gives voice to a lesser-known but poignant chapter of Appalachian history. With music and libretto by WCU Professor Damon Sink, Shelton Laurel is a haunting meditation on loyalty, survival, and the brutal consequences of civil conflict. Get your tickets today to experience the world premier of this show.

We look forward to seeing you at Shelton Laurel: An Appalachian Opera on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 7:30 pm. Doors will open to the performance 30 min before the show is set to start. The WCU Fine Art Museum and BAC Concessions will be open one hour prior to the show.
