Volunteer Workday with Forest Restoration Alliance
June 12, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join the Hemlock Restoration Initiative on Thursday, June 12th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as we lend a hand to our partners at the Forest Restoration Alliance (FRA) located in Waynesville, NC. Instead of chemically treating hemlock trees, volunteers will be combating hemlock woolly adelgid by supporting the work of the FRA at their research facility in Waynesville, where they are breeding HWA-resistant hemlock trees.
Volunteers will complete tasks in FRA’s greenhouse and nursery to help with their selective breeding program. Volunteers will also get a tour of the facility by researcher Ben Smith and learn about their efforts to restore hemlocks. This is a great opportunity to help hemlocks without handling insecticide.
Registration is required. Fill out the form on our event webpage by Tuesday, June 10th to register. Please contact Ayla Busch at volunteer@savehemlocksnc.org or 828-252-4783 with any questions. These volunteer days fill up quickly, so it’s a good idea to sign up soon to ensure your spot.
More information about the meeting location and what to bring will be provided after registration.
