Asheville Creative Arts will celebrate its 10th anniversary of crafting innovative arts experiences on Sunday, August 24, from 1-4:00 p.m., at Peace Gardens & Market in West Asheville.
This celebratory, all-ages event will feature a puppet show and two live bands, raffle, food and drinks from local vendors, and award presentations to those who have helped Asheville Creative Arts reach this milestone. There will also be an announcement of future initiatives, including plans to become an anchor tenant of a multi-purpose black box theater at Blue Note Junction, a new arts, economic, and cultural campus coming to West Asheville.
Local performers for the event include: Slug & Snail, a puppet performance; Krekel and Whoa, a rootsy duo featuring Jason Krekel and Ami Worthen; and The Hypnotic Band, a local band of veteran musicians with lead singers Queen Olympea and Tyron Young, with Ray Mapp (bass), Rob Jones (lead guitar), Gena Harris (keyboard/ guitar/ vocals), and Bernard Beats (drummer).
Each performance will end with an award to an individual or organization who has helped to shape the company, including Daniele Martin, Sarah Elizabeth Malinak and Hood Huggers International’s DeWayne Barton and Safi Martin.
“Asheville Creative Arts is thrilled to produce a Summer Soiree that celebrates a decade of creating theatrical experiences that are both aesthetically innovative and supportive of social-emotional growth,” says Abby Felder, ACA’s Executive Artistic Director. “Our programs are designed to encourage young people to amplify their voices, and for all who participate to listen deeply and look closely, as we believe these are the building blocks for a more just world. We could not do this work without our honorees and we can’t wait to celebrate with the community, great music and great food, and drink.”
All proceeds from the Summer Soiree will help Asheville Creative Arts continue to create innovative programs that serve communities of all ages and prepare for a capital campaign to support the new space at Blue Note Junction.
This event is free and open to the public, with suggested donations collected for food and beverages. Peace Gardens & Market is located at 47 Bryant Street in Asheville. In case of rain, the event will be held at Burton Street Community Center, 134 Burton Street, in West Asheville.
