“Hot Summer Nights” Set for August 20 at Isis

Celebrate the remaining days of summer with neon colors and MC Hammer pants as dance troupe Christine Garvin Dance & Transform takes the stage at Isis Music Hall. Featuring a mash-up of music from the ’80s and ’90s, the third year of “Hot Summer Nights” will take place on Saturday, August 20, at 8:30 p.m.
Hosted by local improv troupe No Regets, the event features dance and aerial performances, live music, and yoga. DJ How D Bot (Juan Holladay, of the Secret B-Sides) will be playing music from both decades in a battle to see which will reign supreme.
“It’s a magical combination of performances, with built-in time to let the audience take over the dance floor,” says Christine. Games, yoga, and dance demonstrations will take place upstairs, while the main floor will feature performances including modern, jazz, and hip-hop numbers, as well as bellydance and bhangra.
This event is more than just entertainment. A portion of the proceeds from the raffle and one dollar from every ticket sold will benefit Girls Rock Asheville and Girls on the Run, two local nonprofit organizations with missions to empower young women.
“For almost every show we’ve put on, we’ve chosen a nonprofit to donate to,” says Christine. “This is important to me because of the circle of connection. What we do has a positive impact beyond the evening. If half the women who come to my classes had access to organizations like these when they were young, there would be a lot less body issues, negative self-talk, and lack of belief in their abilities… We’ve been lucky enough to have amazing, supportive crowds at all our shows, and I’m sure this one will be no different!”
