Marshall Magic Market
Marshall will come alive with music, makers and community spirit on Saturday, October 18, for the fall installment of Marshall Music by the River. The free downtown event offers something for everyone, from shopping local at a curated vendor market to gathering for live performances on Jerry Plemmons Way.
The day begins with the vendor market from 12—5 p.m. in the gravel lot across from Mad Co. Brew House. “The Marshall Magic Market is a local maker and artist market featuring local small businesses and nonprofits within our community, including an adoption event hosted by the Madison County Animal Shelter,” says coordinator Artemis.
At 4 p.m., the spotlight turns to live music on Jerry Plemmons Way. Asheville-based band Impending Joy will open the show with their high-octane mix of psychedelic garage rock and surf punk. The evening will close with a performance by Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats from 6—7:30 p.m. Known for his electrifying stage presence and blend of rock ’n’ roll, blues and Americana, Scotchie has become a staple of the Southeast music scene. His latest album, Love Is Enough, continues his tradition of heartfelt storytelling with urgent, unifying social commentary.
Local business owners are also leaning into the event as a chance to showcase Marshall’s resilience and revival following Hurricane Helene. “Our July 19th music event was so great and fall is going to be bigger and better with some well-known bands and we are expecting a much bigger crowd,” says Rhesa Edwards of Mad Co. Brew House.
“This is going to be the last big event the Downtown Marshall Association (DMA) throws in 2025, and it’s going to be great,” says Kate Sonoskus, who owns Star Taco with her husband Brian. “Brian and I are throwing everything we have into having Star Taco up and running right around the anniversary of Hurricane Helene and we will be ready to do some big business in October.”
Most businesses in town have reopened, many sporting fresh coats of paint, and they’re ready to welcome visitors. Parking will be available on the street, and organizers are working on securing additional options, including the Madison High Studios lot and possibly a shuttle service.
