Zoe & Cloyd Debut Their Harmonies in Marshall November 19

The Madison County Arts Council (MCAC) is excited to present the debut performance of Zoe & Cloyd Saturday, November 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Madison County Arts Center in downtown Marshall.

After the birth of their daughter in 2015, founding members of the acclaimed Americana trio Red June and long-time veterans of the Asheville music scene Natalya Zoe Weinstein and John Cloyd Miller shifted gears to form their duet project.

“We are always excited to present local talent that is making a national splash,” says Laura Boosinger, executive director of MCAC. “This will be a chance to hear Zoe & Cloyd’s stirring harmonies up close and personal. Folks love the intimacy of our listening room.”

Weinstein plays fiddle and guitar and Miller is an award-winning songwriter who plays guitar, clawhammer banjo and mandolin.

“A Zoe & Cloyd show is a diverse combination of old-time, bluegrass and original songwriting with exciting instrumentals and lots of harmony singing,” Weinstein says. “We even put a Yiddish folk tune on our record so we’re really up for anything! Our sound is definitely rooted in old-time and bluegrass but we like to put our own mark on the music as well. Creating new music is a big part of what we do.”

In 2015, the duo released their debut recording, Equinox, featuring original and traditional music that includes bluegrass, old-time and folk. Their sound showcases the elegant simplicity of two instruments and two voices. The album was met with high acclaim in publications such as No Depression and Bluegrass Unlimited, among others. Their rise has continued with a first place win in the Duo Contest at the prestigious FreshGrass Festival in North Adams, Massachusetts, in September and a stellar performance at MerleFest this past April.

“Madison County has an incredibly rich music history,” Weinstein says. “We’re always excited to be a part of that ongoing tradition. The folks that come out to shows in Madison are big music fans and very supportive. Many of them are very knowledgeable about traditional music and that’s fun for us.”

Zoe & Cloyd are currently working on a new album and have a tour planned for 2017.

The Madison County Arts Center is located at 90 South Main St. in downtown Marshall. Tickets are $16. For more information call 828.649.1301 or visit madisoncountyarts.com and zoeandcloyd.com.
