Emmet Cahill Returns to Brevard for Christmas In Ireland Concert
Emmet Cahill will be sharing traditional music and personal memories in his Christmas in Ireland concert on Saturday, December 10, at First United Methodist Church of Brevard. He will be accompanied by assistant music director of Celtic Thunder, Seamus Brett, on organ and piano for this spiritually vibrant community gathering.
“I have been very taken by the special bond that exists between Irish and American people,” says Cahill. “I hope to enhance that bond and awaken people’s awareness of their Irish roots through my stories and songs.”
Cahill considers America to be a second home after touring the country with Celtic Thunder and on his solo tour. He has found that his native accounts are relatable no matter where in the world he happens to be.
Cahill loves caroling with others. Growing up as cantor in his local choir and singing at home with his family, he enjoys performing music across many genres. “My parents played music in the house all the time—on any given day it could be classical, Irish, folk, popular or liturgical.”
This tour is visiting churches across nine cities of the East Coast, but Brevard is a notable place for Cahill. “The welcome I received from the community was above and beyond anything I had expected,” he says of last year’s visit. “There was such a warm atmosphere during the concert—a real coming together of people in prayer and song.”
The love Cahill has for the people of WNC is reciprocated. Last year tickets sold out completely, prompting an additional performance to be added to this year’s agenda.
“I really enjoy congregational singing and am looking forward to hearing a church full of voices this December,” he says.
