Fast and Furious Funk: Rhythmic Circus at Diana Wortham Theatre

DWT Rhythmic CircusThere is nothing laid back about Rhythmic Circus in their new show Feet Don’t Fail Me Now! These must-be-seen-to-be-believed dancers from Minnesota took to the road several years ago with a trunk filled with tap shoes and funky costumes. Along with a seven-piece brass band, they will hit the Diana Wortham Stage at 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, March 31 and April 1, for two energy-filled performances. Where else will you ever be able to see Aaron “Heatbox” Heaton (the human beatbox) in action?

Rhythmic Circus came onto the scene in 2007 and quickly grew into an international sensation. Feet Don’t Fail Me Now! debuted in 2008 at the Ritz Theatre in Minneapolis. The show—with its taps, shuffles, stomps, clangs, riffs, and refrains—offers a creative and celebratory view of the indomitable power of the human spirit.

The group includes dancers Nick Bowman, Galen Higgins, Ricci Milan, and Kaleena Miller. Musicians are Alex Rossi (guitar), Cornell Blanchard (percussion), Dan Ristrom (bass), Peter Vircks (saxophone), Aaron Wiener (trumpet), and Aaron Heaton (beatboxer).

The group has received numerous awards, including two SAGE Awards for Outstanding Ensemble and Performance, two Upper Midwest Emmys, and the Edinburgh Festival’s “Spirit of the Fringe” award in 2012.

Tickets ($42 for adults, $20 for children $20, and $37 for students) are available online at dwtheatre.com or by calling the box office at 828.257.4530.
