Attracting new audiences with his classical piano and contemporary works, composer and pianist Chad Lawson, of Charlotte, has been featured on CBS’s Sunday Morning and NPR’s All Things Considered. His 2014 album The Chopin Variations was named the number one classical debut album on iTunes. This month, Chad will accompany the choreography in Ballet Conservatory of Asheville’s Winter Works: Innovations & Variations with his original compositions. On Friday, March 11, at 7 p.m., the Conservatory’s acclaimed preprofessional company will dance in this production at Diana Wortham Theatre.
The evening’s headline choreographers are the Conservatory’s principal dancers and guest faculty members Addul Manzano, of Charlotte Ballet, and Jennifer McNamara, of Nashville Ballet. Jennifer’s piece explores the emotional stages one experiences when recovering from a loss. The Ballet Conservatory’s ballet master Wayne Burritt has choreographed the movements to accompany Chad’s piece “Dance You Pretty.”
Additionally, Angie Lynn, the Conservatory’s artistic director, has choreographed a new piece to a Latin guitar instrumental by British rock star Sting. New dance creations by Lindsey Kelley Brewer, of Ballet Conservatory’s modern dance faculty, will also be part of the performance.
