The 44th Village Art and Craft Fair is Set for August 6–7
By Anna Jorstad
Taking place August 6–7, the 44th annual Village Art and Craft Fair is an artfully designed showcase with the charm of historic Biltmore Village on the grounds of the Cathedral of All Souls. Sponsored by New Morning Gallery and Bellagio Art-to-Wear, the annual fair gives attendees the opportunity to peruse and purchase work from more than a hundred artists from 17 states. Forty of these artists live in Western North Carolina, and 29 exhibitors will be participating for the first time.
The full spectrum of media includes jewelry, ceramics, wood, fiber, metal, and a variety of two-dimensional art, and more. This huge range is a tribute to Asheville’s ever-growing art scene. Historically, the Village Art and Craft Fair draws thousands of shoppers and art connoisseurs with a passion for discovering one-of-a-kind treasures for friends, family, and themselves.
One of the yearly highlights of the fair is the release of the unique poster art by a local artist, which always features the likeness of a cat. This year’s design was created by Alabama-based painter and illustrator, Bethanne Hill, who was also the designer of the 2009 poster. The proud owner of four dogs, event coordinator, John Cram, of New Morning Gallery and Bellagio, jokes, “Look out kitty—it may be time for the ‘Hounds of Cramville’ to invade future VACF posters!”
Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, rain or shine. Admission is free and homemade refreshments are available at the church-sponsored concession booths with proceeds benefiting the Cathedral’s Outreach program. For more information, visit newmorninggallerync.com.
