Education 2025: The Art League of Henderson County Launches Children’s Art Classes

Art League of Henderson County class for children

Starting in March, The Art League of Henderson County will present a calendar of art and ceramic classes for children ages 7 to 14 years old. The classes will be offered after school, during school breaks and throughout the summer. Held in the workshop rooms at The Art Place Gallery, the classes will cover a variety of topics, including drawing, painting, printmaking and 3D sculpture. Ceramic classes will be held in the Glassman Clay Studio.

“After the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, these classes offer more than just artistic instruction—they provide a vital, constructive outlet for expression and emotional recovery,” says studio manager Hannah Gambino. “Numerous studies have shown that art and creative activities can act as a healthy distraction from trauma, fostering resilience and emotional well-being. We’re at a pivotal moment in the Art League’s journey where we are now able to expand our offerings.”

The classes will consist of weekly classes for five consecutive weeks during the school term and five-day sessions during school breaks, starting with the week of spring break, Monday through Friday, March 17 to 21. Gambino, who has a teacher’s license in K-12 art, will be leading a five-day clay club from 10—11:30 a.m. on these dates. “Three days will go over the basics of wheel throwing, trimming and decorating their pots, and two days will focus on handbuilding with sculpture projects,” she says. “A few weeks after, their works will be ready for pickup or shipping.”

From 1-2:30 p.m. on the same dates, a Spring Break Art Academy will be facilitated by several instructors, including artist Linda Hendricks. “I would like to encourage fun in the process of creating art,” says Hendricks. “I also want the children to know that their artwork is important. They should be able to show it and be proud of it. Whether it is on the refrigerator or in the mall on display, all children’s artwork needs to be shared and enjoyed.”

The Art Place Gallery is located at 2021 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, and the Stuart Glassman Clay Studio is next door at 2015 Asheville Highway. Learn more and register for classes at ArtLeagueHVL.org.
