American Folk Art Celebrates “The Color Red”

Artist, Michael Banks

With passion, power, and energy, American Folk Art’s new exhibit, titled “The Color Red,” explores how this dynamic end of the color spectrum plays an integral role in the world of art. The gallery has assembled works by nine artists that explore this vibrant hue and its “cousins” on the color wheel. The exhibit will run June 2–22, with an opening reception from 5–8 P.M. on Friday, June 3.

When asked about his use of the color, Alabama sculptor James Snipe (one of the artists participating in the show) says, “When I open the can, it’s telling me to use it. It looks so good.”

“Red may not be the largest ratio of color in any given piece assembled for this show,” says gallery owner Betsey-Rose Weiss, “but it will serve as a powerful foundation or interesting fulcrum in each piece of art. The red energy of the assembled artwork is going to boost our spirit.”

The exhibit will include selections of paintings, pottery, and sculpture.

American Folk Art & Framing is located at 64 Biltmore Avenue in downtown Asheville. Gallery hours are 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 P.M. on Sunday. For more information, visit amerifolk.com or call 828.281.2134.
