Paintings by local artist Olga Dorenko will be showcased at F.W. Front Gallery at Woolworth Walk this month. The exhibit opens with a reception with the artist from 5–7 p.m. on Friday, July 1, and runs through July 30.
Olga was a classical art student in the former Soviet Union, where she spent countless hours mixing and blending colors. Through this experience, she developed an intense relationship with color and with light, as is evidenced in her paintings today. She says her work has also been influenced by the gentle light, vivid brushwork, and painstaking detail in paintings by Russian artist Ivan Shishkin.
Throughout her childhood, Olga and her family moved throughout the Soviet Union. As a young mother, Olga immigrated to the United States, eventually making her way to Leicester. She observes that nature’s beauty was a constant throughout all of these changes, pointing out that flowers, trees, sunsets, and snowfall are true beauty on both sides of the ocean and in every part of the world.
The artist says she is continuously impressed by the variable colors she finds in nature and in the beauty she discovers in both rural and urban landscapes. She adds that her recent works have been a celebration of the natural beauty found right here in Western North Carolina.
F.W.
