F.W. Gallery Features Terri Friday and Helen Yamada

Terri Friday and Helen Yamada at F.W. Gallery

Artist, Terri Friday

The work of local artists Terri Friday and Helen Yamada will be displayed in the F.W. Gallery at Woolworth Walk throughout December. An opening reception and art walk, including an opportunity to interact with the artists, will be held on Friday, December 2, from 5–7 p.m.

“To connect to nature in a therapeutic way is allowing ourselves to relax, breathe and feel deeply when we are in a natural setting,” says Helen Yamada, painter and energy healer for the last 30 years. She illustrates her connection with the earth in her vivid, expressive paintings. The focus of this show is the persistence of botanical life. “The plants just keep on giving,” says Yamada. “I’m inspired to tap into and trust that intelligence to bring repair and balance.”

For Terri Friday, there is an intimacy in sculpting pieces that people interact with regularly. “That connection between the user and the maker is something I am always aware of,” she says. A collector as well as a creator of ceramic pottery, Friday appreciates the sentiment and luck that affect the outcome of each work. “Pots don’t always come out of the kiln the way I may have envisioned they would,” she says. “Accepting the inconsistencies and the loss that can occur along the way affords the potter a unique perspective, one that can be applied as we navigate life’s lessons.” Friday enjoys exploring her dynamic voice through constant metamorphosis.

Housed within the historical F.W. Woolworth building, which is open every day, Woolworth Walk features the works of more than 150 local artists that craft every kind of art from jewelry to metal sculptures to digital creations. While browsing the gallery and exploring the building, you can also visit the 1950’s style Soda Fountain diner, restored to commemorate the historic luncheonette that once operated onsite.

Woolworth Walk is located on 25 Haywood St. Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday 11 A.M. to 6 P.M., Friday 11 A.M. to 7 P.M., Saturday 10 A.M. to 7 P.M. and Sunday 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. For more information call 828.254.9234 or visit woolworthwalk.com.
