BMC 40th Anniversary Season Finale Weekend Set for August 5–7
Brevard Music Center (BMC) will celebrate a three-day conclusion to its popular summer music concert series with performances in Whittington- Pfohl Auditorium.
At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 5, enjoy grand and uplifting melodies as the Brevard Music Orchestra, conducted by BMS artistic director Keith Lockhart, presents the music of Sibelius, with harpist Ina Zdorovetchi. Having already established herself as one of the leading harpists of her generation, Ina has performed as a soloist with orchestras in North America, Europe, and the Middle East. She is presently the principal harpist with Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Opera Boston, and Boston Modern Orchestra Project.
At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, the orchestra—under the direction of BMC resident conductor Ken Lam—will present Igor Stravinsky’s “The Firebird Suite,” with piano soloist Min Kwon. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Min has performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the United Nations, and also in Korea, Vienna, and the Czech Republic.
At 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, BMC will present the season finale titled “Beethoven 9.” Keith Lockhart, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, and a stirring choral ensemble will join musical forces to perform Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9,” one of the best-known works in classical music.
Ticketholders to these concerts on Saturday and Sunday may attend pre-concert events of music and discussion in Thomas Hall one hour before the performances.
Beyond this magical musical weekend, there’s a lot more going on at BMC in August. On Thursday, August 4, for example, there will truly be “Some Enchanted Evening,” with the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. On Friday, August 19, BMC presents “An Evening with Gillian Welch,” featuring bluegrass, Americana, and Appalachian music.
