Paintings by contemporary fine artist Ian M. Cage will be featured in an exhibit titled “Thrust” that opens with a reception from 5–10 p.m. on Friday, July 8, and runs through August 8 at London District Studios, 8 London Road in Asheville.
“Thrust” will feature works from the artist’s Inference Series, which offers abstract expressionism possessing a visual energy. Ian creates bold, colorful, and intellectually structured works on stretched canvas and sewn canvas with grommets.
David Horowitz, of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City, remarked about Ian’s works, “(They) thoughtfully engage the history of abstraction, while offering a distinct view on the relevance of art to the individual.” Oliver Pippen, of the Asheville Area Arts Council, said, “Cage brings new art ideas into the world.”
“I’m committed to process development as the key to artistic decision-making,” says Ian. “My principle interest resides in abstraction and the visual elements of language, utilizing the common variables of color, form, and symbol to transmit personal experience into our collective environment.”
