Main Street in Downtown Waynesville
The Christmas Tree Lighting at the Waynesville Police Department kicks off the holiday season on Friday, December 2, at 5 p.m. The event will include a musical performance featuring Voices in the Laurel, Longs Chapel Chime and the Handbell Choir. Art After Dark takes place on Main Street on the same evening from 6–9 p.m. “The spirit of Christmas is always present in downtown Waynesville,” says Teresa Pennington, owner of TPennington Gallery.
Waynesville will host its annual holiday event, A Night Before Christmas, on Saturday, December 10 and 17, from 6–9 p.m. “Waynesville is transformed into a Christmas marketplace,” says Pennington. Taking place along Waynesville’s Main Street, the event will feature horse-drawn wagon rides, luminaries, a visit from Santa Claus and live carolers. On December 10 only, there will also be a Bethlehem Marketplace and Live Nativity. “Visiting the Bethlehem Live Nativity is a good place to start the evening, then you can wander down Main Street and ride the horse and wagon while you enjoy the carolers,” Pennington says. “That perfect Christmas gift is surely waiting to be found in the shops and galleries.”
New additions to this year’s A Night Before Christmas include Professor Whizzpop, glass harps and photo booths. There will be plentiful shopping and eating available, with open stores and restaurants on Main Street, Church Street, Depot Street and Wall Street. Axe and Awl Leatherworks will host a Christmas Marketplace and there will be a Christmas card-making station at TPennington Gallery. Mast General Store will host activities for children and there will be face painting at Green Hill Gallery.
