Jazz Bassist Hilliard Greene returns with Steinway pianist Lenore Raphael

March 28 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$22.13 – $27.38

Separately, bassist Hilliard Greene and pianist Lenore Raphael have wowed fans and
critics on stages all over the world. It’s rare to hear these jazz talents performing
together. Greene returns March 28 to perform alongside Raphael to volley their
own individual compositions alongside reimagined gems from the classic jazz
playbook.

Greene performs widely in New York City—recitals, nightclubs, concert halls (including
Carnegie Hall), recording studios, radio and television—as well as throughout the
United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, the West Indies and South America. He served
as a musical director for nearly 20 years with Jimmy Scott. Greene also composes and
performs solo music for contrabass. He developed his program of spirituals to spotlight
the significance, art and beauty of 19th-century American heritage songs associated
with the Underground Railroad, the network of secret routes and safe houses used by
enslaved people of African descent.

Raphael, a native of the Bronx, was an early prodigy pianist, performing at Carnegie
Hall as a 7-year-old. As a teen, she pivoted to jazz and, in the decades since, has built
a deep reputation through performances at Jazz At Lincoln Center, The Blue Note,
Jazz Showcase in Chicago and jazz festivals in Tel Aviv, London, Ottawa and South
Africa, among countless gigs. At Mars Landing, expect to hear her original composition
“Blues for OP (Oscar Peterson),” which she performed at a tribute concert in Toronto
for Peterson.
