Preserving a Picturesque America (PAPA) will be holding a fundraising art show benefitting Chimney Rock State Park beginning with an opening reception June 26, 6-8 p.m., at Saluda Studios. The show will run through July 31.
Out of the many communities affected by Hurricane Helene, the town of Chimney Rock – along with the state park located there – was one of the hardest hit. Many of the local businesses had their buildings swept away in flooding and the state park infrastructure was severely damaged. More than eight months after Helene hit the area, Chimney Rock State Park has yet to reopen.
This summer’s fundraiser will enable people to purchase beautiful pieces of art, created by well-known local artists, which depict Chimney Rock pre-Helene. Forty percent of the proceeds from each sale will go directly to supporting Chimney Rock State Park and its restoration efforts. Pieces featured in the fundraiser will be on display at Saluda Studios, as well as online at preservationthroughart.org.
The opening reception for PAPA’s Chimney Rock State Park fundraiser will feature art, music, storytelling, and a presentation by state park rangers, who will share the current status of Chimney Rock State Park, as well as its goals and future outlook. Drinks and light fare will be provided, and attendees can learn how they can help with park restoration efforts.
“So many people who saw the news reports on the devastation to Chimney Rock have wondered what they could do to help get the town and the state park back on its feet,” said Scott “Doc” Varn, PAPA Founder and Executive Director. “Our event on June 26 is an invitation for people in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina to come out and learn how they can be a part of the restoration efforts, while enjoying a nice evening of music, art and storytelling. They can also be a part of what we are doing by going to our website and purchasing Chimney Rock artwork that is for sale online.”
Chimney Rock State Park plans to officially reopen and welcome visitors Friday, June 27.
