MWWine School is partnering with Asheville School of Wine and Metro Wines to offer one of the industry’s most advanced wine credential classes to Asheville and the surrounding community in the coming year. WSET Level Three Award in Wines will take place January 2, 3, 8, 10, 17 and 24, and February 5, with an exam on February 7. Classes will be instructed by Melanie Webber, a WSET-certified wine educator who holds the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wine and Spirits, as well as the Wine Scholar Guild’s (WSG) French Wine Scholar and Spanish Wine Scholar certifications.
“WSET (The Wine & Spirit Education Trust) is a globally recognized wine program and offers among the most prestigious and sought-after wine credentials in the industry,” says Webber.
Neeta Mittal, founder of LXV Wine, took the WSET Level 3 course from Webber in 2022. She said that the tastings were the most meaningful part of the course for her. “Melanie has this innate ability to make this process seamless,” Mittal says. “I remember tasting 80 wines as part of this course and remaining unfazed. What you read and study is cerebral. When you taste the wine, there is an instant connection with what was covered in the study agenda.”
Classes will take place at Engaged Asheville, with the exception of January 17 and 24, which will be virtual seminars. Students will taste more than 70 wines during the course, all of which come from Metro Wines. “It is important to know that anyone can learn to be a good wine taster with practice and discipline,” says Webber. “While the class is for serious students and requires considerable study time, I also make sure that students have fun while learning.”
