Someone once described David Holt and Josh Goforth as a “two-man tornado of tunes and tales.” They will appear in concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, at Ebbs Chapel Performing Art Center, located at 271 Laurel Valley Road in Mars Hill. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend a summer afternoon in the mountains and let the breeze of musical memories waft over you.
“We are delighted to bring David and Josh to this lovely venue in the Upper Laurel section of Madison County,” says Laura Boosinger, executive director of the Madison County Arts Council. “All of us have enjoyed David’s stories of his mentors and teachers, folks like Byard Ray, Ralph Stanley, and, of course, Doc Watson whom David toured with for 14 years. Now the roles have shifted and David has become the mentor. This concert brings teacher and student back to Madison County where David learned much of his craft and where Josh was raised and where he is related to most of David’s Madison County mentors.”
David and Josh are celebrating the release of their latest CD Good Medicine. From the album’s liner notes: “Mountain music is fortified with a wide variety of sounds from ballads, blues, and old-time Tin Pan Alley, bluegrass and more.”
They recorded the project in Asheville and had help from some of the finest musicians in the region. Chris Rosser delivers an added bounce on piano, Tony Creasman administers the percussive groove, and Balsam Range bassist Tim Surrett lays down the solid foundation.
