October Isis Series Features Mountain Spirit Acoustic

October celebrates mountain spirit with music styles ranging from a gritty, Southern soul singer to a captivating Canadian fiddler with a step-dancing act that is sure to draw a crowd.

“In October we present another diverse collection of shows in both our intimate lounge setting as part of our acoustic series and in our main hall. From folk, jazz, bluegrass and Celtic to swing, rock and blues, we have it covered,” says Louise Baker, Isis Music Hall assistant talent buyer. “Make a plan to have dinner and enjoy top notch regional and national performers at Isis Music Hall.”

The Mountain Spirit Acoustic series continues this month at the Intimate Isis Music Hall Lounge with four October shows.

On Saturday, October 8, No Fuss and Feathers will take the stage at 7 p.m. The band has landed at the top of Folk and Americana radio charts and has frequented some of the best festivals in the nation. Ticket prices are $15.

Mari Black visits the Isis on Wednesday, October 12, bringing her sparkling energy and Celtic style to the intimate stage. Black delights audiences with her rich fiddling and engages everyone with musical traditions. The show is at 7 p.m. and ticket prices are $12 in advance, $15 day of show.

The series welcomes Brooks Williams to the stage on Saturday, October 15, at 7 p.m. Williams’ super-charged presence brings electrifying blues and soulful Americana to the stage and will please the blues lover with his country-inspired vocals. Tickets are $15.

David Jacobs-Strain will round out the October portion of this series with a show full of raw energy, enchanting vocals and an outrageous guitar performance that rivals an entire jam band. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, and tickets are $15.

The Isis Main Hall highlights for October include Grammy winners Asleep at the Wheel and the California Honeydrops, a crowd favorite.

On Saturday, October 22, legendary artists Aoife O’Donovan and Willie Watson bring an evening of folk music to the Isis main stage. The show begins at 9 p.m. and is a must-see for all music lovers. O’Donovan has made regular appearances on A Prairie Home Companion and has collaborated with artists over a wide span of genres, from Alison Krauss to Dave Douglas. Watson, a former member of Old Crow Medicine Show, delivers enchanting vocals and a striking stage presence. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Grammy Award Winners Asleep at the Wheel will be on the Isis main stage on Sunday, October 23, with a show at 7:30 p.m. The group was voted the Best Country and Western Band by Rolling Stone, and they have toured with the likes of Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and Merle Haggard. This will be an exciting show filled with Western swing tunes and spirit. Tickets are $30 and can be pre-ordered online.

The California Honeydrops will swing by the Isis main stage on Thursday, October 27, to get the audience on their feet with a night of music with influences from delta blues to R&B funk. The Honeydrops bring an infectious energy wherever they go. Tickets are $12.

On Sunday, October 30, Isis welcomes Joe Newberry, a seasoned banjo player with deep roots in the craft, and April Verch, an internationally touring Canadian fiddler. This collaboration is sure to entertain as Verch step dances across the stage, performing seamless double-time triplets with her feet as Newberry’s banjo tunes delight listeners. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 day of show.

The Isis Restaurant and Music Hall is located at 743 Haywood Road in West Asheville.
