The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. Brevard Philharmonic presents All-American Finale

The Season of Wow concludes with Brevard Philharmonic’s All-American Finale, featuring violinist William Shaub, on Sunday, May 18th, at 3:00 p.m. at the Porter Center, Brevard College.
The Season of Wow comes to a triumphant close with All-American Finale, a concert celebrating the brilliance of American orchestral music. On Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 3:00 PM, the Brevard Philharmonic will take the stage at the Porter Center at Brevard College for a stirring program featuring music that captures the heart and soul of America.

Joining us for this unforgettable performance is the extraordinary William Shaub, a world-class violinist known for his dazzling technique and expressive artistry. Shaub will bring to life Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto, one of the most beloved American violin concertos, filled with lyrical beauty and breathtaking virtuosity.

This concert features a carefully selected program that highlights the diverse and dynamic spirit of American orchestral music:

Adolphus Hailstork – Fanfare on Amazing Grace
Hailstork’s Fanfare on Amazing Grace opens the program with a powerful and uplifting take on the timeless hymn.

Samuel Barber – Violin Concerto (Featuring William Shaub, violin)
Barber’s Violin Concerto is a masterpiece of contrasts, moving from lush, sweeping melodies to a fiery and virtuosic finale. William Shaub’s artistry and technical brilliance will shine as he brings this deeply expressive work to life.

Samuel Barber – Adagio for Strings
Few pieces in American classical music are as moving and universally recognized as Barber’s Adagio for Strings. Known for its profound emotional depth, this piece has been performed at some of the most significant moments in history and continues to touch audiences with its haunting beauty.

Aaron Copland – Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo
Closing the concert is Aaron Copland’s Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo, a vibrant and exhilarating suite bursting with energy and Americana spirit. Featuring the famous Hoe-down, this lively piece brings the concert to a thrilling conclusion.
