Fans of acoustic music anticipate the Acoustic Corner Instructors’ Concert at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts in November each year. The annual event has been showcasing this evolving group of talented teaching musicians since 2007. Always a very popular evening of eclectic musical styles, this year’s concert will take place Friday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m.

“We are excited to continue the tradition of the Instructors’ Concert at Black Mountain Center for the Arts,” says Acoustic Corner’s new owner Joe Friddle, who took the reins from longtime owners Stephanie and Tom Fellenbaum earlier this year. “The combined creativity of this eclectic group of teacher-musicians can be counted on to surprise and entertain.”

The lineup this year includes Dov Deustachio, Laurie Fisher, Matt Kinne, Billy Presnell, Paco Shipp and David Zoll. It is not unusual for special guests to make an appearance as well.

This performance represents the only time that the group gets to play together during the year. Close business associates focused on busy performing and teaching schedules, the group members consider this a great opportunity to showcase their personal styles and, when not center stage, back up their fellow musicians.

“All the instructors who work here have their own acts and travel quite a bit,” says Zoll, guitarist and showroom manager, “so this night is special. We all look forward to putting together unusual arrangements and seeing what happens spontaneously. It’s such a fun and talented group.”

Arts Center executive director Gale Jackson says, “We look forward to the Instructors’ Concert every year, not only because these musicians feel like friends to us, but also because of the serendipity and excitement that comes from the event.”

There is a $15 donation at the door with no advanced sales or reserved seats for the concert. Acoustic Corner can be reached at 828.669.5162. The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is located at 225 West State Street. Learn more at blackmountainarts.org or by calling 828.669.0930.
