Grovewood presents its annual Holiday Sip & Shop event on Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Visitors can enjoy demonstrations, 10 percent off select merchandise in the gallery, and complimentary wine and warm cider, as they peruse high-quality, handmade craft items perfect for holiday gifting.
“It’s important to honor the labor and love that is put into creating things,” says textile artist Deanna Lynch. “The Sip & Shop event is an opportunity to celebrate that.” Lynch will be mending some antique quilts during her demonstrations on Friday and Saturday. “This work is more centered around an appreciation for discarded textiles that only want a little care to be made useful again,” she says. “My work is slow and requires skilled attention to detail. Textiles are all around us every day of our lives, but we often forget how much time and energy is required to make them.”
Edwin Aaronson of Windthrow showcases his walnut and brass Judaica collection, including Mezuzah cases and Shabbatware, at the Grovewood Gallery. “I immensely enjoy creating functional art, and Judaica has served as a wonderful avenue to explore and hone my craft,” he says. “It’s a beautiful meld between aesthetics and functionality. I have a strong foundation in woodworking, and my designs are evolving as I obtain proficiency in brasswork.” On both Friday and Saturday of the Holiday Sip & Shop, Aaronson will be demonstrating his creation process for the Mezuzah cases, which he treats like small, intricate sculptures, as well as how he carves lettering into his challah boards.
Aaronson and Lynch are joined by potter Lisa Gluckin for demonstrations on both days of the event. Janna Mattson, who creates needle-felted wool landscapes, will join the other three makers for demonstrations on Saturday.
