Craft Brew Lovers Are Invited to ‘Tap into Tryon’
Downtown Tryon will be the place for craft beer lovers on Saturday, November 5, from noon to 6 p.m. for the 5th Annual Tryon Beer Fest. Live music, an oyster roast and authentic German food round out the afternoon for this Oktoberfest-style event centrally located in the Tryon Depot Plaza.
Festival organizer Terry Schager says the festival focuses on local breweries and food, and attempts to keep things small. “The feeling is of a private and somewhat intimate street party,” he says. Many attend from places like Knoxville and Charlotte, he adds, but there are also a lot of locals who have attended since the event began.

An array of craft beers and wines will be available for sampling. Asheville’s Altamont Brewing and Wicked Weed Brewing are among new participants this year, while Thomas Creek Brewery, of Greenville, SC, has been a presence since the festival’s debut. “We return to the Tryon Beer Fest,” says Tim G. Smith, marketing director for Thomas Creek, “because everyone involved feels like family. We love supporting the town and surrounding area.”
Food includes platters of German brats, sauerkraut and potato salad from local McGourty’s Pub, southern barbecue, pretzels, pizza and vegetarian selections from Saluda’s Manna Cabanna. The festival’s popular oyster roast also returns.
Music will be provided by Asheville’s Lagerhosen, a party polka band, and by Atlanta-based party band, Suburban Angst. Games and activities will be held throughout the day.
The festival is a nonprofit event, with proceeds benefiting the Tryon Downtown Development Association and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Foothills.
The Tryon Depot Plaza is located off downtown’s Depot Street. Tickets, capped at 1,200, are available for $35 online through EventBrite or at select locations in downtown Tryon. Organizers anticipate a sellout, but if tickets are available on the day of the event, they will be $40 at the gate. For tickets and more information, visit tryonbeerfest.com.
