Scott B. Robinson, Author
While working on a master’s thesis, Scott B. Robinson found his muse in the ancient Roman poet Catullus, who, Robinson says, “taught me much about humor, emotion, musicality and form.” Inspired, he began writing and publishing short fiction. With the publication of The Young Fate, the Asheville writer can call himself a novelist as well.
He recommends this work of speculative fiction for readers who enjoy challenging stories. “Any reader who has discovered in literature a defiant voice against the absurd world we’re born into will find a kindred spirit in The Young Fate,” Robinson says. The fantastical adventure revolves around a young man, Yan, whose best friend has vanished, and a delusional homeless man whose life will intersect with Yan’s.
“My hope is to remind the reader what was first revealed in childhood—that life is mysterious and sacred and full, wherever it takes seed,” Robinson says. “In an age when so much of the media we surround ourselves with tells us to seek outward approval, I want to encourage the reader to instead look inward for a more meaningful and enduring sense of identity. At the heart of the novel is the act of the good deed, which we learn flows naturally from this kind of internal journey towards self-realization.”
