Downtown Brevard will shine all month long as a lineup of beloved holiday traditions returns to brighten December. Festivities begin on Saturday, December 6, when the Brevard Christmas Parade steps onto Main Street at 3 p.m. with the 2025 theme, A Storybook Christmas.

“This year’s parade promises to be extra special, featuring creative floats inspired by classic stories, beloved children’s books and holiday traditions that come to life along Main Street,” says Tamika Hunter, executive director of the Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce. “The event continues a cherished local tradition—uniting families, businesses and visitors in a celebration that captures the warmth, creativity and community spirit that define Brevard.”

That same afternoon, downtown transforms once again for Light Up the Night, running from 2–8 p.m. and culminating with the lighting of the tree on the courthouse lawn. “This event is such a reflection of who we are as a community—creative, welcoming and full of small-town magic,” says Nicole Bentley, executive director of Heart of Brevard. “Light Up the Night brings people downtown to celebrate together, support local businesses and kick off the season in true Brevard style.”

Throughout the season, visitors can step back in time at the Aluminum Tree & Ornament Museum (ATOM) at the Transylvania Heritage Museum, which runs through January 17. This year’s exhibit is themed around the 1970s. “Over two dozen vintage aluminum trees—many decked out with the museum’s extensive Vintage Shiny Brite ornament collection—make for a dazzling burst of era-spanning festive spirit,” says Rebecca Suddeth, program director for the Transylvania Heritage Museum. “This exhibit brings joy and nostalgia, connecting generations with shiny ornaments and stories of holiday traditions. It attracts visitors from near and far, supports downtown activities, and funds the museum’s year-round efforts to preserve local heritage.”

Later in the month, The Winter Market at The Yard returns on Saturday, December 13, from 3–7 p.m., offering a lively gathering place for holiday shopping and seasonal fun. “This beloved annual event transforms the property into a festive holiday marketplace featuring local makers, artists, food vendors, live music and family-friendly activities, including a visit from Santa and the ever-popular llamas,” says Kristie Nichols, owner of The Yard. “Visitors can shop for unique handmade gifts, enjoy local eats and warm drinks, and soak in the holiday cheer while supporting small businesses and local creatives.”

Brevard’s December traditions offer countless ways for locals and visitors to come together in the spirit of the season.
